Bache Todor is a project for a tavern with total area of 120 sq.m located in the picturesque town Dobriniste lying in the skirts of Pirin mountain. The tavern being a part of small family hotel is situated semi-underground and is thought to welcome all the hotel guests as well as guests coming to only have a delicious dinner.
The main trump card which solved the space of the tavern was the slightly lower ceiling height. Thus, functionally planning the space the main volume was resolved on a horizontal rather than a vertical and the space itself was divided in three main areas representing the three major folklore areas in Bulgaria – Macedonia, Miziya and Thracia.
All of the three designed areas of which Macedonia is the most spacious attract with their own specific features incorporating elements of traditional Bulgarian architecture, but at the same time blend in together to form the overall down-to-earth, yet sophisticated atmosphere. The space balances the rough from the stone built floor, the different kinds of stones used for wall coverings, the wood with authentic finish and the refined from the custom-made lightings that float overhead, elegant replicas of Thonet chairs and the only one used vigourous and colourful textile.
The biggest part of the area is the dining zone which offers places for couples, families or larger companies and is thought to be easily rearranged in order to form anchoring space for dances or other celebrations. Except that, the space comprises a bar counter presented as house with typical rooftop made of stone slabs which compliment the wood beautifully, separated space for music and in the center of the tavern connecting all three zones an impressive oven surrounded with a bar counter that allows the guest to observe the food preparation process. All of the tavern’s elements correspond together and are designed to improve not only the staff’s worklflow, but the guests’ unique dining experience.
The interior approaches the traditional concept of a tavern in a different way to achieve the greatest effect in a minimal, yet efficient manner creating a welcoming cohesive atmosphere that makes Bache Todor tavern a must-visit place.
