For my Graphic Design Media Management class, we were asked to re-align a current magazine with certain design issues. I chose The Advocate, a popular LGBT+ politics and pop culture magazine. I felt that they branded themselves too politically, when a large portion of their content was pop-culture. I decided to turn the magazine into a double-issue, featuring two separate magazines representing both politics and pop culture in one single issue. I re-designed their logo to be less intrusive and blocked, and simplified their type treatments throughout. I customized the images in the issue to unite common themes, representing both colorful playfulness on the pop culture side, and a duotone, more serious quality on the political.
