Tip me, Twist me - Pepper Mill

Tip me, twist me is a pepper mill designed to sit upside-down on a curved, weighted concrete base. It is playful and interactive in its use, novel in its form and combines timber and concrete together to create a striking balance between warm and cool.
The final appearance model, displaying the form true to my design. In this image you can see the way the mill sits on it's curved base – as it is picked up and put down it spins and wobbles without tipping over.
This model is made from turned Cibatool, and has been painted with a combination of water based spray paints and artist's acrylics.
Mid-way through the model's painting process with the concrete base nearly complete. Two greys were used for this component, with black and white speckles on top to add depth. The wooden part was painted by hand to achieve the grain texture.
A bar of polished aluminium sits raised above the recessed grinder as a stylistic reference to traditinal pepper mills. It offers an indication of function and use to the subject, allowing for intuitive interaction.
