Hidden Insecurities

My goal for this pair of earrings was to create something beautiful in a very simple, yet elegant form. I wanted the earrings to be plain and polished, and to only use texture to give a sense of mortality and reality. The roses were cut and folded by hand and then layered and soldered together. The ear jackets were also form folded and hammered by hand before being layered and soldered together.
Although it may not seem like it, the message behind the earrings is the same as the necklace: hidden insecurities. I have done this in a much more subtle way this time around, focusing on combining the two ideas (creating an image for others to see and how you feel in reality) rather than separating them on the front and back like I did with the necklace. I did this by allowing human error to enter the piece because I did not want the earrings to seem machine made. I tried to let the rose petals be different on each rose, as they would be in real life; I let the leaves on the ear jackets be different shapes and sizes to give a more natural feel; I left marks on both pieces to give a handmade quality, alluding to human error and mistakes.
I wanted these earrings to look like a real person made them; a real person with real insecurities and real emotions who is trying to make something beautiful in order to make others feel beautiful inside and out.
