In this body of work, I was motivated by the recent pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. Driven by the violent police crackdown on peaceful protesters during the Occupy movement, I have strived to capture that moment. Through exploring the use of industrial components and recycled materials, such as concrete, resin and phosphorus powder, these wearable objects were created in response to the snapshots of the demonstrations in Hong Kong and my urban surroundings.
The integration of different social elements, such as color, material and form help create associations in the viewers mind. The tension created by the luminosity and darkness represents the confrontation between the people’s voices and the political system. By creating these wearable objects, I would like to express my salute to the people and the process of societal change in Hong Kong.
