Nicholas Candela's profile

2015 Winter Painting

My fascination with figures stemmed from the study of individual stills of the Zapruder Film, which is essentially a home video documenting the final twelves seconds (give or take a few) of President Kennedy's life. From this film, I cropped and isolated figures who were watching the event at various stages. Their surrounding were removed and in rendering the forms in an achromatic palette I found that they were further recontextualized to convey figures that were watching, distracted, even, but completely unaware of their roles as spectators.
