My old design for Practical Digital had to work with the constraints imposed by the sitebuilder provided by RegNow. I never really liked it because the only part of it that was truly mine was the header banner and background.
When RegNow failed to deliver on its promise of a second income, I turned to Trade Doubler and some other affiliate providers and took advantage of the chance to redesign the site. With my experience of WordPress now improved by working with TEDxSalford and having had some input from professionals I decided to experiment with layouts and move away from the bloggy layouts I'd been using before. After some searching, I settled on Besta, a MagPress magazine theme that comes with a slideshow at the top. I've got a thing for slideshows. The plan was, instead of tacking WP onto the end of the site, I'd use WP as a content management system instead of a blog.
Redesign

People have described the redesign as "attractive," which has encouraged me to keep on experimenting with new layouts. My Acore client is so impressed he wanted me to use the theme for his site. He particularly likes the "pockets" used to display images from the posts, along with their titles. The slideshow works off a particular category and you can choose how many it will display.

Since I've got all of it on WP, I can do pretty much what I like with it, so I've added the Neogrey font via a Cufon plugin. The main body font is sans-serif.
This is the Facebook welcome tab. It's got a feed reader widget that posts updates on the page itself. I've also copied and pasted the sticky posts there so people can click on them. I've also added a countdown clock.
This is the Twitter profile. I'm a big believer in social media. I also believe that establishing a brand is the key to establishing your business. That's why I kept the circuit board motif and Neogrey font for the logo. I use Networked Blogs to post links from practicaldigital.co.uk post to Twitter and Facebook. I've also got the Twitter app on Linked In. Speaking of which...
Here's the Linked In company profile page. Advising on making the best use of social media is one of the services I offer. Linked In lets you add videos and images to your profile, but you can't style it.
