3D METAMORPHOSIS
Design Fundamentals

Created in March 2015
Facilitated by Christian Boucharenc
The 3-D Metamorphosis exercise was a continuation of the 2-D exercise, requiring a wholistic understanding of the chosen subjects - the Ribbon and Butterfly - in order to succesfully capture the spirit and form of the objects in each stage of the process. The end result is a seamless 2-way transformation of one object to another.
Beauty in Fragility

Both the Ribbon and Butterfly were chosen because they exemplify values of transformation, beauty, elegance and femininity. Furthermore, they also have the same form. The tension in the ribbon is slowly released as it transforms into a butterfly, free from chains.

Each piece is handcrafted out of ribbon and clay, which is carefully moulded and hardened to shape, and finished with fine sanding and painting. It is a unique piece of work that sits elegantly in any environment, exemplifying the values that the objects behold.
