Børn, unge & Sorg

Børn, unge & sorg, a volunteer organization supporting children who have lost or experience parents with long term illness, wanted to increase awareness with professionals working with children.

We decided to focus on primary school teachers and aspiring teachers, since both feel a great responsibility for their pupils.

We realized that a common fear amongst teachers is not having the knowledge to help children in need – for example children grieving. So we proposed that Børn, unge & sorg published an online resource with practical exercises and materials for dealing with grief and death within the classroom. We spread the word via the posters shown below hung in the staff room and in canteens of teacher training colleges.
7100 children lose a parent every year. What do you do if one of them is in your class?
Are you prepared tohelp the students with more than grammar?

(The letter reads: My mom died 16 days ago. My dad cries alot and I'm very sad too and it's very hard to talk about. The other children still have their moms and they don't really get it.
