SCAD Artwork - Freshman Year

“And all the winds go sighing, For sweet things dying” - Christina Rosetti.
Welcome to Limbo…
This piece was inspired by a question that personally plagues me constantly, what happens to us after we take our last breath. Is the destination hell (red), heaven (blue) or is it limbo (white) ?

The assignment was to render the still life use white and black charcoal on grey scale paper.

Trompe l'oeil; a trick of the eye. For this, the aim was to make the paper bag look as if it were resting on top of the paper.
For this piece, we were to take 3 pictures of an object, a person and a thing and run it through a smart phone photo editing app such as Instagram or Pixlr. We were then made to recreate the picture on paper using colored pencils.
Inspired by home, the Bahamas, this piece represents the pride of the nation Junkanoo and the chains broken by us celebrating this national treasure.

The person whom this was created for was a game design major whose favourite developer was Nintendo. So, I crafted a Wii out of wood and for the ages of the book I designed CD's with her artwork including snipets from an interview conducted prior.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Martin Luther King, Jr

The inspiration for this piece was the uprise and outrage over the numerous white police on
young black person crime. The piece is calling on the irony of the police not doing their job. To
protect and serve, yet so many are being killed without reason. This country stands on the fact
that you are innocent until proven guilty. Then why are so many being shot down without trial?
Why are so many being taken down when they’ve already surrendered?
The piece is meant to be displayed halfway on the wall and the other half on the floor. It is meant
to be a shadow of a police officer which as it bends onto the floor it turns into yet another victims
body.
This sculpture is inspired by a lotus and a mangrove. It is made of wire and twine. It was hung with a white hook to give the illusion of floating.
This piece is made of white garbage bags suspended by clear string.
The combination of a natural and a manmade object; Bird Call.
The combination of a natural and a manmade object; Flamingo Ball.
For this color theory project, we had to use techniques learned in the quarter to create this final project.
