Graphology Cinemagraphs

Influenced by my hobby of people watching, I created a series of cinemagraphs of people on the streets on Hong Kong. The handwritings on the sides are the results of little narratives that I have created about each person in a GIF.

For this project I did some research on graphology, which is the study of handwritings and how they evoke certain personalities.  I went through the process of studying handwritings associated with different personalities.

The point of these cinemagraphs is not to be able to entirely read the narratives, but the emotion the typography in each GIF evokes.

Process: I wrote on transparent sheets with a black marker and scanned them in using a film scanner. The writing appeared how it would on contact sheets after developing a roll of film in the darkroom. I then brought those narratives onto my cinemagraph file and animated them in After Effects.
