Where We Are
My twenties up to this point have been life-shaping: falling in love, working towardsa career and a dream, and not just making a place for myself in life, but discovering moreabout that place. Along with these experiences, come issues and tough decisions. As a child,I was taught to always go after what I want in life. I never knew the financial cloud that accompanies dreams was part of the deal. In relationships, the same concept is true. Loveis beautiful, but parting from my first love has created an absence.

I started, Where We Are, because despite how prepared a person believes themself tobe, entering adulthood is as frustrating as it is wonderful. Relationships, careers, and finan-cial responsibilities, amongst a whole world of other "grown-up" things, become our life. The portraits you see are of those in their twenties with an item from their childhood. Where We Are is not focused on mourning for the past. It is not about the items stand-ing in as instigators of sadness. This is a series of photographs showing the juxtaposition bet-ween what was, and from that, what is. Adulthood is where we are.... when childhood is what we've known.

These images were shot using a 4x5 large format camera, and printed in a darkroom on 11x14 matte paper.
