Disconnect
The concept for my neckpiece of space stemmed from the idea of being spaced out. When someone is spaced out they are not really fully aware of their surroundings. I believe that today technology has impacted our society in so many ways, good and bad. I do believe that it has caused people to be less interactive with each other and not quite as social even though we always have social media at our fingertips. I wanted to express this disconnect through my neckpiece. I decided to have my necklace be a choker so that it fits directly on the body. There are spout like forms coming from the neck to represent people that the wearer has relationships with. From the spouts are plasti-dipped fishing line that is not connecting to anything but just hanging loose from the necklace. These fishing lines represent the relationships not being connected to anything and causing the disconnect of the wearer and their relationships. For the lines I wanted to try to make it an interesting material in order to create an interest to the viewer. The reasoning for this was to try to get the viewer to come closer in order to try to "reconnect" with people rather than with technology.
