Above is the original City College Veterans Association logo. The CCVA is a student run club/ organization on campus. I was asked to redesign the logo but not stray to far from the original concept.
I first decided to redesign the shield shape. I wanted to make it a little broader but still keep that smooth bend into the bottom point. I set the shield aside and worked on the beaver. Beavers have two major distinct characteristicts that should be prominant inorder for a viewer to see it as a beaver and not confuse it for another animal such as a rat or gerble. The two characteristics are the flat, wide tail and the two large buck teeth; for my illustration, I focused more on the tail. The three headed figure, Janus, is based from the City College seal and original logo. I chose a more simplistic design for the sword so that it can appear more prominant across the shield and so it wont be confused for a weird penis. Lastly, going back to the shield, I incorporated ridges to the dark grey blocks just to add some dimension and not look so flat. I decided to keep the banner above the shield and used LeArchitect  font for the CCVA to keep the militaresque vibe.
