People
I remember hearing once that there was an ancient tribe of people who, when they first encountered modern civilization, were horrified by cameras. They claimed, so the story goes, that cameras steal your soul.
Now I'm not certain where I heard that story but for me photographing people has always been about, perhaps not stealing, but capturing a tiny piece of their soul and preserving it for posterity.
