Everyday we pass by strangers. Girls with long hair and heavy bags on their shoulders. Boys with mud on their shoes and hands in their pockets. Kids throwing tantrums with their mothers trying to console them. Tired faces. Mouths chewing bubble gum. Ears clogged with music. Men wanting love, women waiting for it. Laughter from old jokes resurfacing. Feet tripping on pavement. Arms finding the balance again. People moving in all different directions.

It’s a romantic idea to walk up to a complete stranger and say, “Hello, my name is _______. And I want to know you.” It is an intimidating and scary idea. But yet, we do it all the time.

We live in a society where it has become completely acceptable to add a complete stranger on social medias sites. We see their pictures, we like their statuses, we start to recognize the faces of those close to them. We feel we know them. But is this really the same as, “Hello, my name is__________. And I want to know you.” The Strangers Project has made it its mission to find out.

The Strangers Project is both an immersive multi=media art installation and a feature length documentary focusing on the lives of 6 strangers in Savannah, GA. To learn more about the exhibition and documentary respectively, click on the headings above. And thank you for your interest in The Strangers Project.

ART INSTALLATION:

The Strangers Project found six strangers on of the streets of Savannah, GA and asked to get an insider’s perspective of their lives for two months by following them on their routines, conducting interviewing and developing a trusting atmosphere to spark friendships with each of them. Then The Strangers Project team came together to embody what they learned about each individual by creating a space devoted to capturing the essence of that person through sound, film and tangible objects.

In each room, one will be hear the voices of each stranger revealing stories both humorous and vulnerable, see abstract interpretations of them through experimental films, and get to sit on furniture pieces and interact with objects that The Strangers Project team has chosen to symbolize the essence of that individual. Although viewers will not see actual photos of the stranger, by experiencing the sounds, smells, films, and textures of each room, a more enriching and honest interpretation of the image of the stranger will be told.
DOCUMENTARY:

The Strangers Project is a feature length documentary to be released in May 2015 about the making of The Strangers Project Exhibition.  It is split into three sections; the first being the behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to put together an art installation, the second being an inside look into the lives of the 6 individuals that the exhibition is based on, and then lastly a walk through of the final exhibition as it becomes open to public.
Through the documentary, the theme of how technology and connection are affected today is put into focus. In today's world, we think the idea of communicating with strangers is very romantic and we reach out to people all the time through social media devices. But is this making a true connection? Or is this just getting a slight portion of what their lives are all about? With this documentary we are aiming to prove that true connection between two strangers can exist today without use of any social media.
