‘‘lies, damn lies and statistics’’

"Lies, damn lies and statistics" a quote from Benjamin Disraeli who served twice as Tory Prime Minister 1868 and 1874-1880 and was The Earl of Derby. Disraeli was the first person to show his opinion, that politicians need to show their true colours, in what they believe and what they are going to do for the country.

Disraeli, a man who believed that no government will work at its most efficiency without truth.
Which in politics today is something we can only dream about, Disraeli's statement was made when politics was more truth than lies but compared to what its like today that quote accurate now, when it truly is nothing but lies and statistics made up to oppose the other political parties.

I am currently in the progress of making some work that is based upon my opinion on how politics is now more of bitch off and a lying game, rather than a sustainable and trustworthy structure of society.
I have taken quotes that the media have broadcasted all over the internet and newspapers, all have been posted as quotes that different members of the UKIP party have said in interviews. So my initial reason in looking at these, was to just state my opinion on that one party and how its not right for them to classed as a 'major' political party and say such outrageous and racist things.

But after doing some research in why they were said. I discovered that in fact they were never said, just made up.
They are lies that been casted into the papers through the UK, for the general public to read and therefore a negative reaction against the comments and the party that has said them. Yet they were made up by the opposing parties. Made up by those parties that have the power in the UK at the minute.

So my question is... why make up these lies? whats to be feared of the UKIP party? are they really such a big a threat against the Conservatives, Lib Dems and Labour? I personally can't see the threat, would the majority of the voting public honestly agree with half of the UKIP policies?
As you can see from my work, there are some obvious visual relations between what i have made and that of other artists work.

Gillinan Wearing and Barbara Kruger are just two that have in one way or another influenced my work throughout this project.
to be continued...
