Pride and Prejudice

Book Design & Typography Project.

The idea for this design was inspired by my visits to Starbucks to read books or do my homework. I’ve always liked their hand-drawn signs and graphics. So for this project, I integrated hand-lettering on the main cover and chapter headings in the book. I chose the classic Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen to redesign so it can look modern and more attractive to the new generation of readers. I tried using my own hand-writing and mimic other ones to get a sense of the visual direction. As a contrasting typeface, I used Gotham to keep the title clean and easier to read. I also illustrated a victorian silhoutte suggesting the time and place of the story. The silhouette and the quote serves as the main graphic for book. The combination of the victorian icon and modern elements gives the book a more current look.
