Take a product that is static and give it a kinetic aspect to solve a problem.
I chose to redesign a soldering iron because this was the perfect opportunity to get rid of those annoying sheet metal stands that we all settle for as a solution.
Staring with some quick physical sketching I figured out a solution that would work.
A cut away of the mechanism, the angled hole acts as a mandrel and bends the wire as it is passed over.
The four expanding feet allow you to put the iron down in any position and have it be safely above your work surface.
