What do we do now?

*Update:

This project was revisited by the team after the 2015 Global Game Jam. Since them we develop new art and animation, polish the mechanics and add new puzzles. You can see the project improvements on the video below:
This is a project developed in 48 hours during the Global Game Jam in January of 2015; The theme of the GGJ 2015 event was: "What do we do now?"
After a long brainstorming of ideas, we decided to create a game in which one or two players could control two different characters: “d” and “o”, each of them with different abilities. The submitted game for GGJ  has 15 levels and two endings.

To move "d",  players have to use A,W,S,D and to move "o", they have to to use Arrow Keys. In order to restart the current level, players should use R key.

You can find the game to play here!
Our entry in the Global Game Jam Site can be found in this link.
We worked in a small team, with 2 designers, 1 programmer and 1 composer.
During the development of the game our roles were game designer, level designer and graphic designer.

One of the challenges in this project was the fact that we as the designers were working in Savannah, GA in the United States; the programmer in Glasgow in the Scotland and the composer in Curitiba, PR in Brazil. So,to be able to communicate the puzzles and compositions of the level design with programmer, we developed the levels graphically taking notes of the elements and triggers necessary for each level. Our idea was to present all the game mechanics through puzzles, without the necessity of a tutorial guide.

Here you can see some examples of the level designs with notes about how the mechanics would work in the game.
Here you can see an example of explained trigger events and puzzles in one of the further levels in the game. The four frames down below show how the players progress and solve the puzzles in this level.
To our surprise, the project was chosen as the best game at the headquarters of Savannah college of art and Design!
We are currently continuing on developing this project for a final version, a more polished version with more complete and complicated gameplay.
