Imperfection of Skin

Ring the bells that still can ring
forget your perfecr offering
there´s a crack in everything
that´s how the lights get in
- Leonard Cohen

Today fashion items are not made to last due to ever changing trends where attrition could potentially ruin the expression of the clothes. By working with the imperfection and impermanent concepts of wabi sabi (a Japanese philosophy, which sees the imperfect as beautiful and puts emphasis on enjoying the present moment), I hope to slow down the consumption of fashion by reconnecting the wearer with the clothes.
The impermanent state of the garments is shown through a 2D to 3D concept where clothes reveal their true form when worn. This makes the body the manipulator of shape, giving the clothes a more personal character. To make clothes better withstand time, they need to be adaptable to the changes that occurs with the aging female body, for this reason, the possibility of personal adjustments is necessary.

As with Wabi Sabi, the skin is under constant change and every part of the skin is unique with small scars showing history.
Contrasting shapes are dominant, from draping wrinkles to structural skin coted bones. No part of the skin is symmetrical, that has translated into my pieces with asymmetrical lengths that is offering an opportunity to get involved in the piece. Is also creates shapes that keeps the eye searching for new discoveries. By making a balance between chaos, the organic and refined, I hope to reveal a truer and more beautiful view of life where imperfection and impermanent is accepted.
