For our first project in screen printing, we were to find a simple chair to reseach and reupholster with our own printed design. This is my process...
found at a local antique shop, this chair is meant for dining in the mid century modern era.
I researched barkcloth fabrics from the 50s and 60s and came up with several patterns that reflect those time periods and their styles.
I brought the pattern to the drafting table and applyed texture to the background
I chose this color palette because of the deep tonal values and by doing an overlay of color, I could create a rich brown to add to my design.
I coffee dyed cotton sateen to tone down the bleached white fabric and did many sample prints
final design reupholstered onto the chair
