Heliconia psittacorum x spathocircinata
'Guyana'
This is a digital rendering of a crossbreed specimen I found in Thailand. It is one genus variation of hundreds within the Heliconiaceae family known as the 'false-bird-of-paradise'. The flower is pollinated by bugs and hummingbirds especially. The plant in turn is shelter to insects, frogs, and bats of its native tropic regions of the Americas. The bright colors have popularized the plant as a landscaping embellishment and promoted its distribution to well-suited areas such as Florida and Thailand.
