I took this series of photos whilst working in the north-west of England. The following pictures are all of Purple Sandpipers that were of a small roosting flock.
Purple Sandpipers are a winter visitor to British coastal waters, widely distributed and quite site faithful. They breed in the high Arctic / tundra habitats but are also a rare breeding species in the UK.
They are a hardy species often found on breakwaters and rocky shores where they congregate in small roosts at high tide.
