Editorial shots of my baroque whisk collar and corset. -It was an awesome experience being on set with the talented Lauren McLean Photography, and the lovely Tyler McClelland embodying the vision !
My concept for the costume pieces, was to challenge the viewer to redefine the woman who would wear this European historical finery. Rather than the typified Caucasian woman, powdered whiter than white, presented is a woman of African descent, embracing an even darker shade with the aid of black cosmetics.
I built the collar and corset from my own patterns. SCAD -The Savannah College of Art & Design - picked up the photographs as part of their advertising campaign for 2014. The collar additionally won the SETC Martin Izquierdo Costume Craft Competition Award in 2014.
