Project Duration: 3 weeks

1. Initial Ideation
Internal structure iteration 1 and 2
Final Iteration
2. Manufacturing
a. Gear System - using GearTrax software, I created a rack and pinion gear set.
The software did not come with a gear type that fit my need. To make it work the way I wanted, I copied one of the gears teeth to a new layer. With the tooth, I extruded it 0.125" and then made a plane on the bottom of that extrude. From here, I again used the circular pattern function around the diameter of my water bottle and cleaned up the edges.
Testing gear design
Final 3D print
Printer type - Polyjet
b. Machining
Drilling through first layer of water bottle to rivet in pinions
3. Final Prototype
Exploded view
Exploded view of lid assembly
Exploded view showing how gears were attached.
1. A hole was drilled into the first layer of a dual layer stainless steel water bottle
2. Gear and spacers riveted into place
Press fit base with external sleeve.
