INSPIRATION- Japanese Boro Textiles
Boro is a Japanese word meaning tattered rags and it refers to these collage like blankets that lovingly patched and repaired with available clothing.

For the first time in the history of Arvind’s Design Studios, a unqiue concept of the development of textile artworks for the FABLAB Womenswear Studio was to be executed. These Artworks are an extension to the Studio’s core Design Developments- yarn dyed and prints.
The main objective was to prepare indigo/ sulphur storyboards that would help present seasonal collections.
This indigo blanket is a handsewn fabric collage (patchwork quilted blanket) compiled using solids (piece dyed and chambrays), prints, surfaces (fabric manipulation, embroidery, dobby), yarn dyed checks and stripes and balancing them with each other. Also, in order to give this collage some depth it is almost essential to add an accent color (deepest shade of indigo) in a rather smaller quantity at some areas of the blanket.

The blankets soon became a popular medium to display the seasonal collection according to themes. Key prints, solids and yarn dyed patterns juxtaposed together and handsewn with running stitch.

The blanket so created was first presented in Premiere Vision Denim, Paris (30th Nov - 1st Dec 2011) where they were internationally recognized. The blanket was used as a base to take pictures for the official coverage of the show.
