FOR THE ADVENTURE JUNKIE – SUUNTO AMBIT3 PEAK

Wenever you’re on an adventure trip, you’ll definitely need a high performance GPS watch to pinpoint exactly where you dropped the pace or overstretched yourself. From its advanced outdoor and multi sport features to its GPS tracking capabilities, the Ambit3 Peak can do it all. As this is our first time reviewing a Suunto product, we were very keen to know how useful this gadget is. Without further ado, let’s take a look at this versatile gadget.

As the name suggests, ‘Peak’ meant that this watch is designed for trail runners and hikers. Looking rather similar to its predecessor in terms of aesthetics, this gadget weighs at 89g, built with durability in mind, and has a sturdy steel bezel alongside a scratch-proof crystal glass. Around its bezel, there are five standard sportswatch’s buttons: view, light lock, next, start/stop and back lap. More importantly, this GPS watch also has a remarkable battery life, which can be recharged via the charging port located underneath its display.
From the aspect of features, there’s a slight different as it sports an incredible number of user-friendly features when compared to the previous model, such as the ability to sync with smartphones via Bluetooth Smart, which means compatibility with a wide range of devices. Its data can be shared both ways and users can also receive push notifications from their smartphone on this GPS watch. All data on its display appear large and clear. We personally like the change. Beyond that, the other features are still pretty much identical, from the selection of sport modes to its recording capabilities.

There’s no lengthy setup process for the Ambit3 Peak, and it only took us one to two minutes to sync it with our smartphone via the Movescount app. Once connected, we decided to test its capabilities by wearing it during a hiking trip. We found its navigation system to be quite accurate as it guides us through a spiderweb of trails as, well as sets waypoints for making distances and altering pre-made plans. Despite the limitations of its display, users are still able to view route that they have taken, the points where they stop to rest, and more. Another interesting thing about the Ambit3 Peak is its ability to record heart rate metrics while swimming; however, this won’t work without the heart rate strap.

All in all, the Suunto Ambit3 Peak is an ideal GPS watch, as it’s packed with useful features for hikers, trail runners and multisport athletes.
