Whether for business,pleasure, or personal aims, journeys encompass the human experience. Theconcepts for these pieces flooded me as I flew and drove back and forth home toColorado, went to Mexico, and Minnesota over the past two years (2005-2007). My travelswere to see my family, my father James Malloy, who died of colon cancer November 2006. Some flights seemed lost in a haze of incomprehensibility, whileothers I used as opportunities to think. The trips varied in meaning, some forjoy, some for sorrow.
Looking out the planewindows I delighted in seeing the patchwork created by spreads of farmland,winding rivers, grand mountains, and city streets. To me, seeing the patternsof nature shows how we are all pieced together in some way beyond ourcomprehension. The size and space of elements and objects in this world varytremendously, and yet there are still parallels.
This series is ametaphor for the vast and comprehensive nature of life. You’ll notice the manyimages that compose my works are close ups of plants, objects, rocks, people,and textures. My intention was to show how the small details in nature and lifeare microcosms of the universe. In such a busy world, it is easy to lose sightof interconnectedness; however, the connections are constant.
