RamRam’s Cart sources and supplies organic products. It is inspired by the philosophy, life, and work of RamRam, who lived in Bangalore from the 1960s up until 2000. In 1984, here in Ravugudlu village, RamRam – till then a wanderer in search of truth – decided to start what he called a “Paradise for Children.”

It was RamRam’s firm belief that education should deliver us from pain and suffering. For him education did not mean only being lettered, it did not mean only understanding science, math and social studies or knowledge of ancient lore; nor did it stop at some sort of combination of these. For him, education meant an understanding of what to do in order to be happy in body and in mind; it meant being able to understand how to heal oneself. RamRam believed that food was the best medicine and he and his wife Devaki practiced and taught traditional food processing practices that ensured the children at Vishwalyala stayed healthy and strong.

Another principle that RamRam believed and practiced was that the happiness each of us wants and experiences cannot be fully felt and lived except in the wellbeing of others and the wellbeing of the Earth.

RamRam’s Cart believes that it is worthwhile to work towards building a habit of choosing organic products; they hope that parents will gift this habit to their children and that for the younger generation, organic will become the natural choice as it is for the children at Vishwalaya.

Vishwalaya came into being informally as an unplanned answer to the needs of local people: women, setting out to carry water from a distant water source, left their babies here with RamRam to watch till they returned, this slowly extended to leaving their children with him for a whole day when they were working at the quarries, then for safe-keeping when there was trouble at home, or not enough to eat and slowly, the space began to turn into a place that people could leave their children, knowing they would be taken care of till they came back for them. It did not stop at children; women and men also came looking for somewhere to be at “home.” RamRam named this space “Vishwalaya” – Home for the World.” This is the living principle that continues to inspire RamRam's Cart in all their activities at Vishwalaya. The products you are buying from RamRam’s Cart are packed and labeled by the women at Vishwalaya’s unit for women’s initiatives. RamRam’s Cart supports Vishwalaya in this and its other activities related to children’s education, culture and research.
