Thisentryway, hall or sofa table is not an "arabesque" in the sense of aserpentine line or repeated linear motif (though the grain of the Wenge doesswirl and zigzag throughout). It is "arabesque" in its sinuousnessand evocative imagery. Nearly every line is curved or ends in a curve. The endsof the cogged lap joints attaching the modified aprons and lower stretcher tothe leg assemblies evoke the face of a feline. So too the stretcher between thepairs of legs suggests a pair of serpents holding the small display shelf. TheBloodwood of the top, drawer front, and display shelf has an unusual striatedpattern of metallic gold, copper and deep red reminiscent of sunset on a beach.The drawer pull of Yellow Heart might be a shell reflecting the golden light.At least in my mind . . .
