Designed from scratch for the best interface, this key fob for the Bentley Continental gives another dimension to the car. One key to start, heat, park and unlock the car. The controls had to be intuitive. Careful consideration was put into what input devices are used in relation to the action it performs and where it is located in relation to the user’s hand.

The central ring selects various functions, while the middle button ejects the key and three other buttons switch functions according to the ring position. The first concept is inspired by the fluid curves of the car itself, and is designed to make the thumb fit the key like they are meant to be together.

The second more minimal concept has a larger touchscreen display so the amount of buttons could be reduced and by integrating the back slider the key is retracted and covered by the Bentley logo.

The third and final concept was a merger of what we learned during the development of the first two concepts. With the display on the top of the removable key, the user is able to simply switch between a right or left handed interaction. The key functions as coax plug, enabling communication with the body.

Users can switch with their thumb between different options in the menu, which move naturally with the spinning control ring.

Meanwhile the index finger can be used to select the chosen option and the middle finger or ring finger to lock and unlock the car.
