1987 | A Production Project

In our production class we were asked to create a meaningful event invitation that included intricate die cuts as well as a overall historic theme. Over the past year I have really gotten into sneakers especially Nike’s to be exact and when the idea of a shoe invitation came to mind I had to run with it.

Sneakers have always been a big market, but with the rise of new technology and design trends shoes have been getting crazier and crazier. I decided to do an invitation of a shoe release party on a Nike Air Max 1, which is by far my favorite shoe. It has superior comfort and classic styling. The whole concept of this invitation is revolved around the whole historical relevance of the first Nike Air Max which was released on March 26th, 1987 and was the first shoe that Nike designed to feature the famous “Air” bubble in the heel. This very same day is now known to sneaker enthusiast as “Air Max Day”.

Back in the 80s, textile design was a huge market and those crazy patterns could be seen anywhere and everywhere, so why not design a shoe that incorporates that design heritage. I wanted to design a concept shoe that incorporated some of my favorite textiles as well as a blend of futuristic materials.

Afterall, Nike is always pushing the limit when it comes to creating a new shoe.
