CELEBRITY MIXED MEDIA PORTRAITS
So What's This All About?
The process to create these illustrations was full of trailer and error. I started this series after some absence from sketching (you can tell the difference when you see Beyonce, which was my first attempt to the final celebrity Angelina Jolie, which was much better in quality)
As I'm always experimenting, there was no real "goal" with this series. The subjects were chosen for their influence and entertainment success and I sought to add abstract elements to develop and discover new techniques as I create.
I used water colour splashes that I scanned in to add to the abstract shapes and glows and sparkles to make certain areas vibrant as a way to balance the randomness of the paint.
Honestly, the ink sketches may be more successful than the mixed media pieces, but it's all about experimentation and enjoying the process of creating.
