Stand Tall is an illustrated children’s book I had the privilege of working on. A book that tackles a hard subject, focusing on kids who have a terminally ill parent. Proceeds of the book go towards the GIST Cancer Awareness Foundation.

 

I wanted to focus on a limited palette of orange red and blue to portray the emotions of sadness at the beginning to hope towards the end. The most difficult aspect of the drawings was to create a mood of being alone / isolation without being continuously monotonous throughout the book. I relied heavily on graphic elements like thought bubbles and symbols to express further emotion and add visual interest.
