MMc401.2 'Identity'

For my second project of my Graphic Design and Illustration module I was tasked to create an idenity to promote myself by way of design a brand that represents me. I have thoroughly enjoyed this project and I'm looking forward to building on what I have started here it and using it as a spring board for future projects.

Finished business cards
I went with this design as the characters seem more memorable and different to a lot of what I've seen during my research. I'm hoping to expand the designs over other accessories in future.

Bracket Development
As part of my research I looked into occult and pagan symbols such as Alchemical Sigils or in this case Norse Futhark Runes, here I looked into the meanings of the individual runes and amalgamated them in much the way Sigils are constructed in some occult practices. Technically I shouldn't inverse them as that reverses the effects but they just seemed to perfect for the job. Plus if I was the supersticious sort surely they'd cancel each other out.

Elements of Design: A Visual Language
Though I only had time to represent these two business cards as finished products in my development of my brand I encounted regularly occuring elements and so created an Element Map to show the mutable elements that have arisen out of the process. I was largely inspired by https://www.behance.net/gallery/19950165/Porto-City-Identity-and-Branding-Proposal to create a flexible visual language that I can work with to build a rich and varied but most inportantly coherent and recognisable brand.

The Final Three
Here are three of my potential designs. As you can see, elements from the third made in into my final design but I ultimately felt the more illustrative approach was the most iconic of the three. The red bird design I personally really liked but I think was a bit too abstract as I got very mixed responses to it. Plus I was really enjoying working with the strongly contrasting black and white designs.
Finally here is the piece that got me hooked on the visual style that shaped my final piece as you can probably see in just how many elements which made it into the Element Map. Ultimately I moved away from the typography heavy piece as it didn't really lend itself to a business card but I expect I will execute it properly somewhere down the line.
