Vector Self Portrait

What I wanted to convey in my self-portrait is my connection and love for nature. My favorite animal is a deer so I wanted to add antlers. Deer, in my opinion are very graceful creatures with lots of natural beauty and uniqueness. I love daisies and roses, it think they both have simplicity and complex shapes and forms. The tone of the portrait is modestly and docile. I did this by not looking in the camera, instead looking down.

The artist that best resembles my work would be Antonio Del Pollaiuolo. His painting named Profile Portrait of a Young Lady resembles the main ideas in my self-portrait. What was similar in both of our images, was the focus on the face. The face is the focal point and everything else is subordinate. The mood is a graceful young lady with no defined emotion. Very docile, and beautiful. In Antonio’s painting there is a contrast between her face, and her clothing. In mine there is a contrast between my face and my antlers. Our works are different by the position of the subject, color, and accuracy. In my self-portrait there is an element of fantasy, whereas Antonio’s painting is very accurate to how the young woman may have looked.

This is the final result after a long weekend of studying my last adaption closely. What I thought was it would be really cool to have the background a darker color so my skin tone and hair stood out a lot more. I got rid of the external glow and the three daisies around my chin. I finally added a body to my floating head-which was just a t-shirt two arms and a neck. I decided it would look really cool to make the antlers look as if they are being drawn onto the dark background like white chalk on a chalkboard. Then I decided to take that idea and make some large roses in the background that had just the outline. Also, to make my focal points pop I made my lips, a few roses, and my shirt dark red. I am still not very satisfied with my last image, but I had to turn it in! I will always keep improving this image and keep everyone posted!
Here is the next sketch idea; here I was a little lost as to what I should do with the negative space. After many trials and errors I decided to add more flowers. I changed a few shadows on the face, added slight dropshadows around the left side of the face, and an external glow. I wasn't very satisfied with the end result, which led to a weekend of studying the image very closely.
This is the first completed idea after finishing the face, hair and antlers. I included flowers, and a plain background.
Here is the origional picture for the project.
