Villain Month - October 2014 (Part 1)

Here I've collected the first half of my Villain Month sketches from October 2014. Enjoy!
Apparently, October is #VillainMonth, where artists draw a villain a day for 31 days. I was already working on a sketch anyway, so here's Karai from TMNT 2012 to kick things off!
Day 2 of #VillainMonth: Ripto from Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!

A suggestion from my friend Clayton. Ripto was my favorite villain in the original trilogy. Gnasty Gnorc had little to no personality, and the Sorceress felt like a flat out generic villain, where her right hand Bianca was much more fleshed out as a character. A lot of talk and hot air made up for his short stature, and it was a joy to watch him get his comeuppance every time he showed off.
#VillainMonth - Day 003: Gecko Moriah (One Piece)

Now that Season 6 of One Piece is being released in English (and as I watch it while doing homework), I figured I'd draw the main villain of the Thriller Bark arc himself, Gecko Moriah! I wanted to draw Crocodile for a One Piece villain first, but I might save him for later if I run out of villains by the end of the month. Had a lot of fun with this one.
Day 4 of ‪#VillainMonth: Bill Cipher (Gravity Falls)

A little late with this one, but he didn't take too long at all because of his simplistic design. Gravity Falls is without a doubt one of my favorite cartoons on television right now. I DESPISE Gideon, but Bill's great.
Day 5 of #VillainMonth: Freddy Fazbear (Five Nights at Freddy's)

My most ambitious entry of Villain Month yet. Suggested to me by a friend, I needed an excuse to draw Freddy again, especially on the month of Halloween. Having watched several YouTubers play the game, a part of me really, REALLY wants to try it for myself, as I've become desensitized to the jump scares thanks to those countless viewings.

I also saw this as an opportunity to further my experiments with lighting and tones. I've included a variant of the painting with Freddy's eyes dilated.
Day 6 of #VillainMonth: Earl of Lemongrab (Adventure Time)

Sorry for falling behind everyone. I've been busy with homework and have been too tired by the end of the day to even start one of these. I'll do my best to catch up.

Anyway, here's Lemongrab from Adventure Time. This is a character I truly believed I thought would be unlikeable and annoying, but instead he became my favorite character in the show, purely because his outbursts and yelling make me laugh. Lumpy Space Princess fits the unlikeable and annoying bill for me instead.
Day 7 of #VillainMonth - Zarok (MediEvil)

Still trying to catch up, so I'm going to stick with villains I'm very familiar with until I do. Zarok is the main antagonist of MediEvil, my favorite video game of all-time for the PlayStation 1 back in 1998, as I've probably mentioned several times to you guys in the past year or so during my Sir Daniel Fortesque cosplay process. This flamboyant, 500 year-old warlock was the perfect foil for Sir Dan, who can't say much due to his lack of a lower jaw. He was as quick-witted and sharp-tongued as he is evil and skilled in the dark arts. He didn't get much screen time in the original, but in the remake for the PSP in 2006 really emphasized his personality as they gave him more screen time and dialogue.
Day 8 of #VillainMonth - Venom (Spider-Man)

Contrary to what you might think, I was not a comic book reader when I was young, nor am I big one now. I didn't even watch the 90's Spider-Man cartoon that much as a kid. However, I had always admired Venom as a villain from a design and story standpoint as a kid. I didn't learn more about him until I played the old Ultimate Spider-Man game around 10 years ago, and then I was psyched to learn he would be the villain in Spider-Man 3, before I was greatly disappointed in that film's execution. I'm hoping for a good film adaptation of the character in the near future.
Day 9 of ‪#VillainMonth: - Oogie Boogie (The Nightmare Before Christmas)

Finally caught up. I feel like I should've saved this one for Halloween day, but really wanted to draw this guy already. Oogie Boogie, the villain of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. What more can I say about him? He's charismatic, has an excellent voice, and a lot more I can't say in a few words. One of my favorite Disney villains!
Day 10 of #VillainMonth - Baron Omatsuri (One Piece The Movie: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island)

Fell behind again, sorry. Decided to do Baron Omatsuri from the 6th One Piece movie. I don't remember this villain as a character very much, but I very much remember the film itself. If you haven't seen it, it was directed by Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, Wolf Children, The Girl Who Leaped Through Time), and is down right the most dark and disturbing of the not only the One Piece films, but of the Hosoda films I've seen. I highly recommend giving it a watch, even if you're not a fan of One Piece, and especially if you're a fan of Hosoda's work. It hasn't been licensed officially in the states, so you'll have to find it somewhere.
Day 11 of #VillainMonth - Skull Kid (Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask)

One of the darker villains I was introduced to as a young kid. He introduced me to far more complex ideas of villains. The Skull Kid wasn't truly evil, he was just a lonely kid that was picked on for creating mischief that was influenced by a possessed mask he stole. And that mask influenced him into believing crashing the moon into the planet in the span of 3 days and create mass hysteria in the process was a good idea. His little giggle still creeps me out to this day.
Day 12 of #VillainMonth - The Major (Hellsing)

After watching Hellsing Ultimate last night, I knew he had to be today's entry. This sadomasochist is hailed as one of the best villains in anime and consistently places on Top 10 lists for them. I finally realize why. This isn't just any old Nazi. He doesn't have any real ulterior motive for reviving the Third Reich. What does he want? As illustrated by his infamous speech, war. Regardless of whether he wins or loses said war, he wants a balls-to-the-wall massacre of a war. He intimately describes in his pre-battle speech how he pretty much gets off on the very idea of war and all the horrible things that came with it. Even when he finally gets that war he wants, he acts as though he's conducting an orchestra. Truly a frightening character that deserves his spot on everyone's favorite villain lists.
Day 13 of #VillainMonth - Mojo Jojo (The Powerpuff Girls)

A classic cartoon villain. I hadn't realized as a kid that he was an obvious parody of anime and movie villains who spend way too much time monologuing, while still being his own fleshed out character. I remember a time where I thought liking the Powerpuff Girls would get me picked on for liking a show with female protagonists. Turns out that the creator of the series is not only male, but a lot of males my age watched and fondly remember this show as well.
Day 13 of #VillainMonth - Female Titan (Attack on Titan)

I guess catch ups are going to become a regular thing now. Ah well. I wanted to do the Colossal Titan, but since I only follow the anime adaptation, I know pretty much nothing about him/it as a villain and know more about the Female Titan. And if you remember, I drew Erin dressed as the Female Titan last October for my annual Halloween pic!
