Releaf Sustainable Stationary
These plantable envelopes were created in conjunction with a local non-profit, EcoRise Youth Innovations, for their “upcycled,” line of products (that is, discarded objects reimagined into new artifacts, keeping them out of the landfills and the sometimes environmentally-costly recycling process). Responding to some of upcycling’s limitations, particularly that most upcycled products only give one new life to the discarded material, the envelopes are developed with a “cradle to cradle” mentality: when they return to the earth, they re-enter and nurture it. Paper gathered from EcoRise’s partner schools has been re-pulped by hand, seeded with Texas wildflowers, and cut into envelopes. Each envelope is letter- pressed with a link to further instructions and a template for forming it into an origami leaf. As a set of envelopes, Re-Leaf encourages a connection with one’s community as one engages with the environment.
