"Oh!" Sheets I Research and Publish Book

Research and Publish Book

I researched six designers who have influenced me and whose design strengths are unknown to many people. And I talked about their design characteristics and works. The designers I researched were Brian Donnelly, who made the KAWS character, Off white’s head and designer, Virgil Abloh, French illustrator Jean Jullien, Korean abstract artist Ha Taeim, Korean architect Yoo hyun-Jun, and interactive design team, SoSo Limited. And most of the designers I chose were designers whose designs reflected abstract art or subculture or whose works were inspired by it.

The common works or directions of these designers made me realize that I was interested in subculture and abstract art, and being influenced by these designers helped me create better works.

And I began to make a book that is based on the designers I researched and works I have done. First of all, the title of this book is “Oh!” Sheets to reflect the style of the subculture mentioned above and the word play derived from it. And I used the expression, Oh! because I was surprised by these six designers and my works that were influenced by them.
Therefore, I began to design the book for these research and started to compile these studies into a book. In this book, I decided to start the book by summarizing my design values and the designers who influenced me in the Introduction. Unlike normal books, this book was designed based on content such as bold and abstract typography, images, materials, and installations by designers I researched. For example, rather than binding using the existing Spiral, the book was bound with cable ties, which is Off-White’s main theme, and quotation marks and sans-serif fonts were used like Off-White’s font.

Additionally, a vintage cover was chosen to give Jean Jullien’s unique vintage style. Also, just as Virgil Abloh used Newsprint material in his design book, I also used Newsprint material for the inside page materials of the book. Also, to give the abstract style of artist Ha Tae-im and the abstractive style of Brian Connelly, I placed my logo on the QR code and designed it so that when I scan the QR code, it connects to articles I researched. And most of the text grids and margins were balanced to give the sense of clean and organized text, referring to the style of designer Yoo Hyun-jun, an architect who focuses on the details in his architectural works.
Also, after these research pages, my works are introduced. These works are also on my list on the Medium: AI & YOU, Observe & Quantify, Structure & Morphology, Liminality & Transition, and Independence & Authorship. These pages take you to the medium blog when you scan the QRcode.
