For this assignment I was provided with an article (P.A.M Black Gold Lookbook) to inspire my design. A illustrations purpose is to carry a message or give an expression with visuals, supporting or assisting the text. So I deconstructed the article and designed around key points. These key points will be stated below and will be accompanied with reasoning.

Tribal Aesthetic
The collective characteristics of the Primary and Secondary illustrations speaks to the route meaning of tribal, tribe, which means “a social division in a traditional society consisting of communities linked by social ties, with a common culture”. This relates to the similar aesthetic and feel the the two illustrations.

Streetworthy & Quirky
To represent streetworthy & quirky I’ve made use of streetwear and street elements such as graffiti and murals. This choice was made to pay respect to the origins of streetwear, which comes from the United States of America. Streetwear bloomed in the 1990s New York City’s Hip Hop scene, Califrornia surfers and more.
As far as depicting quirky, which basically means wierd, unconventional or unecpected, I’ve added comic and manga art throughout both illustrations, bringing a sense of randomness and unpredictability.

Mishmash
This roughly translates to having a combination of things that are’nt that much relatable. With this in mind I’ve combined different imagery, colours and textures to ‘mishmash’.

Making a statement
The bold colours and unconventional style, strays away from the normal fashion magazines. The statement brought across is being new, exciting, colourful, edgy and different.

Women & Men
I’ve made use of a male and female in both illustrations, showing that this article relates to both. I’ve made use of colour as well, having commonly known feminine, masculine and gender nuetral colours troughout both illustrations. This speaks further to the idea that article is for both men and women.
