EIA Reports Green Energy to Meet Global Demands

The International Energy Agency's (IEA) recent report, Electricity 2024, forecasts a surge in global electricity demand over the next three years due to increased consumption in developing economies like India, China, and Southeast Asia. However, clean energy sources, including renewables and nuclear power, are expected to meet this demand.

Renewables, particularly solar, are becoming more affordable and are predicted to account for a third of global power generation by 2026. This source of energy is expected to surpass coal usage. Concurrently, nuclear power generation is set to reach record highs by 2025. The shift towards low-emission energy sources is significant as it marks a shift away from fossil fuel use and could lead to a decoupling of electricity demand and emissions.

The report also highlights the importance of accelerating progress in the transition between energy sources to meet climate and economic goals globally. In addition, it identifies disparities in electricity access and consumption, particularly in Africa, where per capita electricity use has stagnated for over three decades, emphasizing the need for efforts to ensure sustainable energy access for all.
