Aurora borealis (Northern Lights) from my backyard in northern Colorado. They were visible as a result of a fairly large solar storm this past week. This is a very rare event for us this location at a latitude of about 40º North. For this particular event the magenta, purple, and reddish hues in these images are more pronounced in the lower latitudes with more greens and blues nearer the north pole.
