This children's book project was a part of the Read with Wimpy youth literacy campaign. I worked alongside an author to generate the illustrations for their manuscript. The publisher afforded me complete artistic freedom for this project, which was incredible.
I chose a limited colour scheme and worked with texture to create depth and visual interest. I decided on a more imaginative colour scheme for the African landscape to set the illustrations apart from the more typical palettes expected for this subject matter. I tried to keep the proportions and environments more realism-based, although they are stylised as well. In developing my stylistic approach to children's books, this has felt the most natural and refined, and I am overjoyed with how this project turned out.
