Resurrection of Christ in the Tower of Kissamos
Since 1958 the young people of Pyrgos (Tower) Kissamos at Chania, Crete have created their own tradition.

On Holy Saturday, just before the priest says Christ is risen, they gather on the roofs of the houses and in the streets, there next to the Holy Church of St. George, and light large "wires".
After lighting them, they twirl them with all their might and strike them on the ground, creating thousands of sparks that fill the sky.
This year (2024) the custom was even more impressive as it took place in the midst of a heavy downpour so that fire and water coexisted in the resurrection sky.
