PUKAAR
An Illustrated short story about construction workers in India during the onset of covid-19
This story hopes to bring to light the struggles of migrant construction workers in India.

The construction workers who leave their homes and their families to work for near minimum wage in another end of the country. They sacrifice their dreams and aspirations to send money home for their loved one's to have a better life.

This story in particular highlights the handling of the onset of Covid-19 in India where the government practically abandoned the well being of this class of citizens , who are in all aspects the pillar of our community. A lot of lives were lost during the pandemic but it is especially tragic for those who struggled just to afford the basic necessities. No facilitations were made for them to return home and their wages were also cut off during that tragic period.

A lot of these migrant workers never made it back to their families as state - borders were closed off and transport was cut off as well.

' Pukaar ' is a Hindi word that roughly translates to 'a call'
This story is told from the perspective of a younger brother who waits to hear from his older brother and eagerly awaits his return during the events of the lengthy pandemic.
