Ethics of AI Infographic Poster

Brief
This project focused on crafting a visually captivating and informative 24" x 18" infographic poster centered around a specific topic. Employing fundamental design principles such as typography, hierarchy, and grids, the objective was to engage viewers effectively. Through careful selection of imagery and iconography tailored to the target audience, the poster aimed to guide viewers seamlessly through the depicted steps. Clear typography hierarchy and layout were pivotal in communicating the information concisely. An appropriate color palette and composition principles were utilized to ensure a visually stimulating and dynamic design.

Challenge
For this assignment, I set out to craft a visually captivating poster challenging prevailing perceptions of AI ethics, while diverging from traditional corporate AI poster designs. Employing abstract art and vibrant colors, the aim was to pique curiosity. Through deliberate typography and thought-provoking messaging, the poster prompts viewers to reflect on the necessity of ethical guidelines in AI advancement. Integration of interactive elements aimed to foster engagement and ignite substantive conversations. Targeted towards designers, AI developers, and users, the poster sought to resonate within these interconnected communities.

The Design
My design aims to not only captivate the viewer visually but also provoke contemplation on the ethical dimensions of AI. Steering clear of conventional corporate AI poster styles, I opted to craft a unique visual representation of AI, integrated throughout the poster interacting with human figures. This kite as well as other visuals act as a guiding elements, leading the viewer through the flow of graphics and information. I deliberately infused the visuals with an eerie quality, using bold colors and an unsettling AI character to evoke discomfort, thereby prompting deeper reflection on the subject matter.
The Research
Before delving into the design process, I curated a moodboard to collect inspiration for my poster. Drawing insights from a TED Talk titled 'How will AI change the world?' served as a cornerstone for my creative direction. Additionally, I explored various infographic posters to glean diverse approaches to text and content layout. Extensive research into machine learning and its applications in AI further enriched my understanding and informed my design choices. Throughout the process, I constantly referred back to these inspirations, utilizing them as guiding references for typography, layout, and overall design decisions.
The Sketches/Brainstorm
In full transparency, I found myself at a crossroads in the project, unsure of the direction to take. To navigate this uncertainty, I resorted to sketching out multiple layouts and visuals, exploring various avenues in an attempt to discover a compelling concept. These initial sketches served as a playground for experimentation, allowing me to iterate and refine ideas until a coherent and resonant design emerged. This exploratory phase was instrumental in shaping the eventual direction of the project, providing a foundation upon which to build and refine the final poster design.
The Process
Turning to Illustrator, I took a novel approach: I used AI to create AI. Simply by typing "make a sphere," I generated a foundational element for my main visual. This innovative technique not only streamlined the design process but also added a meta-narrative, highlighting the intersection of creativity and artificial intelligence. With this initial step, I embarked on a journey of creative exploration, blending human ingenuity with AI capabilities to craft a visually compelling poster.
Following that, I utilized Illustrator and Procreate to iterate on my layout and visuals. Through multiple iterations and interactions, I refined the design until it reached a satisfying state. With the design finalized, it was time to move forward to the printing stage.

Reflection
This project required a significant blend of creativity and research to take flight. Despite initial uncertainty, I ultimately had to dive in and start somewhere. Through numerous iterations and edits, the project gradually evolved, deviating from my original vision but nevertheless taking shape. Throughout the process, I found immense enjoyment in the challenge of fusing creativity with AI, making it a truly rewarding endeavor.
