Scenic Pavilion
When designing my structure I thought about not only how it would
interact with the sun, but how the community would respond to the
new building. Overall I had three big concerns. First, the structure
needs to have an ample amount of shaded space. While a building
might look great, if it is uninhabitable then it is not a positive addition
to the community. Having doorways that line up on either side of the
building also helps to create better airflow and a more habitable environment.
Second, the structure needs to block the views of the surrounding
buildings as little as possible. Having a taller design would
create a better view inside the structure but could potentially become
an eyesore for the community if it disrupts the views of other homes and
apartments. Third, the building should be oriented in such a way as to
showcase the Catalina Mountains. The view is what is going to attract
people to the site and so in turn it needed to be the main focus of my
building. The orientation of the building also takes out a little plant
life as possible as it utilizes already established trails to its entrance.
