Introduction
In this project, third-year Product Design students at ESDi are tasked with designing a cabin bag to hone their skills before graduation. They will conduct research on various aspects of cabin bags, including types, brands, materials, features, and aesthetics. This thorough analysis will inform their upcoming design project.

Cabin bags, also known as carry-on or hand luggage, are compact and portable bags designed for air travel. They fit in airplane overhead compartments or under seats and are tailored for traveler convenience, with space for clothing, toiletries, and personal items. They often include sturdy handles, wheels, and multiple compartments for efficient packing. Airlines regulate cabin bag dimensions to comply with carry-on size restrictions.
Overview
Before starting a project, it’s important to have some sort of an overveiw. During the first part of the assignment, the class spent about 90 minuts discussing the project, focusing on the most important factors, and working our way to the smaller details. All this work was done to have an over all understanding of the assignment by creating a mind map of the whole process. In this case it was benefitial to work as a group to get as many different views and combining our ideas.
A mindmap me and my class made with the teacher, along with a cabin bag the teacher brought to class. I took pictures of the mindmap and created a digital version of it.
In the cabin bag industry, manufacturers cater to a variety of customer preferences, including efficiency for business travelers, durability for leisure travelers, tech integration for enthusiasts, organization for families, and sustainability for eco-conscious consumers. Understanding these segments allows for tailored designs that meet both airline regulations and specific customer desires.
Carry-ons are essential travel companions, providing convenience and practicality for modern travelers. They meet both business and leisure needs with specialized compartments for laptops and documents or reliable storage for clothing and personal items. By adhering to airline regulations, they achieve the perfect balance of form and function, transforming travel into a streamlined and organized experience.
The carry-on bag market is dynamic, requiring effective marketing strategies to stand out. Manufacturers appeal to business travelers with convenient and sleek designs, and to leisure travelers with durability and versatility. Features like GPS tracking and eco-friendly materials cater to modern needs. Mastering marketing is vital for success in this evolving industry.
