Art 2D - Project 1: Level Concept Design
This post is a brief showcase and documentation of process I took for the Level Concept Design Project.
It consisted of creating the graphical elements of a fictitious 2D lateral view platformer game, by first creating a mockup and then making the assets for Unity.
For this project the students could make groups of two to three students, with each group having a set of four symbols they had to incorporate into the artwork.
The symbols my group got were as follows: confusion; lightning; dice; inverted world.
Each member had to include at least two of the four symbols for the work. In my case I included the lightning and the confusion.
We first started by thinking of an idea for the game and which kind of environment we would be creating, relative to the genre options we were given, which we chose Sci-Fi.
Then we did reference research to get more ideas on what we could do and then we started drawing the drawing process.
Which started by creating thumbnails and then choosing some of the thumbnails to make sketches.

Sketches
After choosing the best sketch we started the detailed sketch phase where we would be giving details to the sketch and do color studies.

With all that we were able to put everything together and complete the mockup.
For the last part of the project, we had to make assets based on the detailed sketch that we’ve made before and create a spritesheet which then was used on the Unity Project to make levels for our game.
To finish the project we then created the level on Unity and it ended up like this:
With everything said, the documentation of the process of making this project ends here.
